Your storefront is one of your most valuable marketing assets, and curb appeal is an integral part of the customer experience. More importantly, it’s not how you perceive your business that influences your customers’ buying decision – it’s how they perceive it.

A 2011 Omnibus survey of 1,000 consumers by Morpace, a market research and consulting firm, showed that external appearance influences the consumer.

Why won't my sprinkler heads go down? The answer to this question depends on how new/old the sprinkler heads are.If your sprinkler heads are relatively new, chances are you just need to clean them out. Dirt and debris can get lodged in the small space between the pop-up nozzle and the body of the sprinkler, causing it to say up. If your sprinkler heads are relatively oldand cleaning them doesn’t work, it’s probably time to replace them. For more detailed information on how to clean or replace sprinkler heads, check out this blog post.
Can I mow after fertilizer has been place on my lawn? Yes unless otherwise instructed by the applicator. With granular fertilizer, in our experience, there have been no adverse effects from mowing or bagging clippings. The fertilizer settles into the turf and there is a very rare chance that any will get picked up with the clippings.
How long should I wait to mow when weed control products have been placed on my lawn? As a general rule two days is the waiting period unless instructed otherwise by the applicator.
How long should I avoid going out on the lawn when weed control products have been sprayed? In most cases just until the application dries. It should be dry within 2-3 hours most of the time. If the chemical has a longer waiting period it will be made known by the applicator.
Can I seed after weed control products have been put down? Most broadleaf weed control products require a 2-3 week wait period before you can seed.
When can I put weed control products on a newly seeded area? You want to wait until you have mowed at least 3 times.
There are brown spots on my lawn. What should I do? It would be anything from drought stress to a fungus or grubs and everything in between. It is best to have a lawn professional diagnose the problem and recommend a solution.
I have a rain sensor on my irrigation system. Why did my irrigation come on even though the ground is wet? Most residential rain sensors do not read off of soil moisture. They are designed to keep your irrigation off only while it is raining.
When is the best time to run my irrigation? The best time to run is early in the morning. There is less wind so the water goes where it is supposed to and less evaporation due to heat.
How can I protect my backflow device from early or late freezes? You can insulate it with something such as hay or a thick blanket wrapped around it. This will not protect against extreme temperatures but it can protect at near freezing.
Why should I winterize my irrigation system? The remaining water in the lines, valves, and backflow device can freeze and break during the winter and cause costly repairs.
Do I need my backflow device tested every year? It is required by the city of Topeka. This is the only way to ensue that water from your irrigation system does not get back into the city water supply. We take care of the testing for you each spring when we turn on your irrigation.
Why do I need to water my plants in the winter? While your plants may be dormant in the winter, they are still alive and therefore still need water. You should be particularly attentive to your plants if snowfall is limited.
Can you plant trees in the winter? Woody shrubs and trees can thrive when planted in late fall (or early winter, depending on the weather) thanks to the warm soil temperatures and cool air. There are even some plant varieties that are at their peak bloom in the winter!
How much and how often should I water a newly planted tree? Your new tree will require about 10 gallons of water per week. If the tree is more than two inches in diameter, it will require an additional 10 gallons of water per inch in diameter.
How much should I water a newly planted lawn? You should keep the seed bed evenly moist until most or all of the seed has germinated, which can take 10-21 days (depending on the type of seed). Until germination, you should water two to three times per day for short periods of time. Once germinated, the grass will require less water and you can water just once per day. When the grass is tall enough to mow (three inches), you can reduce watering to two or three times per week for 15-20-minute periods.
Will a weed mat help prevent weeds in my landscaping? Regardless of what type of mulch you use, a weed mat is often a short-term solution to a long-term issue. While it can work with inorganic/synthetic mulch, it is not guaranteed to be 100% effective. The best way to prevent weeds is to use pre-emergent on an annual basis and apply it seasonally when needed.
What is a backflow device? A backflow device is designed to protect potable water from pollution or contamination that is caused by backflow in a water supply system. It also protects the water that is used in an irrigation system from flowing back into potable water that is used in your home.

Do I need to cover my backflow device? If your backflow device is above ground, you should cover it with a towel or blanket if the temperature is forecast to drop below 35 degrees Fahrenheit. Cover the device as fully as you can.
